James completed his undergraduate training at QUT in Brisbane and a Master of Psychology program through Swinburne University in Melbourne. James is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society and the QLD Convenor of the Child, Adolescent and Family Psychology Interest Group. Over the course of his career James has worked in a number of consulting and counselling psychology settings and began his own private practice in 2005. James’ approach is passionate and enthusiastic, yet also grounded in sound psychological principles. James is highly skilled in providing short-term counselling services, and in some situations, where appropriate, offers longer-term therapy and support to you as his client. James has completed advanced training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Australia under the supervision of Dr Monica O’Kelly, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with Dr Russ Harris. CBT and ACT are proven treatments for anxiety, depression and other mental health issues.
During his Masters training James completed a research thesis which explored father’s use of humour in their homes, and the importance of relationship closeness between fathers and their children. As a husband and father of four, James is passionate about helping clients with issues relating to families, parenting, behavioural problems in children, marriage and relationships. James also has a special interest in helping clients with issues related to work and stress related issues, including providing rehabilitation counselling for clients who have experienced work-related injuries.
In his clinical work, James has particular interest in assisting clients of all ages with issues including depression, generalised anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias. James also conducts Psychological Assessments for clinical and psycho-educational areas, particular assessing for giftedness.
