Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy
EMDR therapy is recognised as an effective treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and a wide range of mental health concerns and somatic issues. The goal of EMDR therapy is to process difficult earlier memories or life experiences and transform them into something useful. Traditionally, processing was activated using bilateral stimulation (BLS) of the eyes using either hand moments or following a small light on a lightbar, however today BLS can be achieved using headphones, tapping, or using pulsators/tappers to activate the processing.
EMDR therapy follows eight phases to facilitate adaptive processing of thoughts, feelings and behaviours to bring symptom relief.
Please talk with your psychologist if you are interested in learning more about EMDR.
